Year of the Dragon

Legend has it...that if the new year lands on your zodiac sign, that it is somewhat of a curse! :O You will face many barriers and things won't necessarily go according to plan. Surviving a full year of bad luck seems a little overwhelming! But Dragons can take on anything >=) That's only if you believe in that kind of superstition of course...hmmm.

Anyways! Here are a few more of my paintings. Both digital pieces were done during the holidays, the carnival one being a revamp of a concept I did in first year, the gouache version of which can be found somewhere around here....

Hi.

Here are a couple of assignments from first term. The painting was fun but I'd burn the whole thing and do it over with some actual planning lol.

Lanternnnnnnns

Yes, I love the Chinese lantern festivals, and thought to myself..."HOW AWESOME WOULD IT BE TO MAKE THEM 100 TIMES BIGGER AND THEN PUT THEM IN A GIANT FOREST." And so this painting was born...

I have never changed the composition of a painting so much, honestly more than ten times at least. Thanks to Maureen for teaching me that sometimes the best way to make your painting work is to destroy it. Falling in love with your initial ideas can be dangerous and keep it from reaching it's potential. One day I would love to go and actually see one of these festivals in the flesh.

Anyways, hope you enjoy it! And until next time...well Halloween is coming up and thus parties so...still stay thirsty my friends!

I'm in love with a robot!...head in a garage...

Title inspired by a sweet song! "The Girl and The Robot" Jean Elan Remix! Anyways.... ;)
Here is my layout I did for our assignment. We had to separate it into layers which was super annoying since I drew the entire thing on one page and then had to redraw half the background digitally. And yes the perspective is wonky in some areas, got a bit lazy. I especially butchered the Nissan GTR, will fix that. But whatevs...it is done, can't say the same for the painted version, we'll save that for another post. Until next time, stay thirsty my friends!

Lifes Heart

Here is my latest painting, once again a revamp of a sketch, and gouache painting, that I did towards the beginning of the school year. This took way longer than I expected, due to restarting the painting about fives times in order to capture a more interesting perspective. Getting the colors to look somewhat natural was also a real struggle for me, some reference would have made my life way easier! Overall I'm fairly happy with the final piece, but it's still no where close to what I want to achieve. And you know what that means...more practice! But for now it will come in handy for decorating my new room. Let me know what you think, areas I can improve etc! Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Until next time...

P.S. Grrr The quality keeps getting messed up when I post paintings and seems to be pix-elating them a bit. I've tried saving the file as normal jpeg and also using the optimize for web option. Does anyone know why blogger is screwing up the image quality?

Fields of Destruction.

Here is another quick painting I just finished! Again it is based off of a sketch I did during the school year.

First summer painting, hopefully of many!

Here's my latest painting. I took one of the layouts I had drawn during the school year and decided to practice my digital painting on it. I altered the dimensions and composition a little bit based off of what I have learned since the original sketch in hopes of improving on it. With most of my paintings thus far, I find that I have a tendency to spend way too much time on the details. So this project was really focused on loose brush work and implied detailing. I also played around with brushes a bit more. This has definitely been my fastest painting so far, and overall I am pretty happy with it. But I still am a long way from the point I want to be at, which just means more practice. Stay tuned!
